About the event

This Easter holiday, explore the relationship between London and its green environment and let your creativity blossom! Learn about the resilience of plants through poetry, science and storytelling workshops. Discover the history of our Museum’s home as Covent Garden’s former flower market, and learn how plants may be the answer to many of our future problems.

Booking is essential for the full-day stop-motion animation workshop for 12-16 year olds.

Storytelling sessions (Drop-in session for 0-7 year olds) 

Dates: Saturday 30 April, Monday 1 April, Friday 5 April, Saturday 6 April, Monday 8 April, Friday 12 April, Saturday 13 April  

Times: 10:30-11.15, 11.30-12.15, 13.30-14.15, 14.30-15.15 

Location: Transportorium 

Explore the difference a single seed can make as you take part in a fun storytelling session sharing how plants make our city happier and healthier. From giving shade in the summer to helping prevent flooding in winter, each seed grows to bring a positive change to London. Following the storytelling, get creative and decorate your own plant pot: you’ll receive a seed to take home and plant in it!

Creative writing workshop (Drop-in session for 7-11 year olds)

Dates: Friday 29 – Sunday 31 March, Friday 5 – Sunday 7 April, Friday 12 – Sunday 14 April  

Times: 11:00-11:45, 12:00-12:45, 14:00-14:45, 15:00-15:45 

Location: Luke’s Skills Space 

Join us to create a piece of poetry or prose celebrating our relationship with plants, and consider how the resilience of plants and their perseverance through the changing climate can inspire us to think positively about our future. We’ll begin with meditation and anonymously share worries, share ideas through individual creative writing and finally collaborate together to create a poignant and meaningful piece of writing. 

Art and science workshop with the Garden Museum (Drop-in session for 7-11 year olds)

Dates: Tuesday 2 April - Thursday 4 April, Tuesday 9 April - Thursday 11 April

Roughly a third of Transport for London’s land is covered by plants! But how much do we know about the everyday plants we find around London? It’s time to turn over a new leaf and discover the science behind plants. Join our partners at the Garden Museum for a hands-on session all about powerful plants. Examine a fern leaf under a microscope, find out about how plants can help combat the climate crisis, and create your own Hapa Zome artwork of your leaf.

Have you ever wondered what planted the seeds for transport innovation throughout history? And how did the Covent Garden Flower Market blossom into the Museum we know today? Explore the rich history of London’s transport network, the Museum and how it changed the landscape of the city today.

Climb on board our vehicles

Don’t miss your chance to climb aboard historic trains, trams and buses – including an iconic red Routemaster and vintage 1938 stock Tube train. Learn to ‘drive’ an Elizabeth line train in the Future Engineers gallery, and get hands-on with our interactive exhibits. 

Fun for toddlers

In our All Aboard playzone, little ones will love playing bus conductors, repairing a mini Tube train with toy spanners, and working in the ‘Lost Property Office’.

Food and drink

Grab a tasty bite to eat for lunch or take a break with coffee and cake at our café bar Canteen, while enjoying the views over the Covent Garden Piazza.

Full day stop-motion animation workshop (Bookable session for 12-16 year olds)

Dates: Thursday 4 April, Thursday 11 April

Times: 10:00-16:15 

Location: Cubic Foyer 

Are you a young person between the ages of 12-16? Why not do something creative this Easter break and join our Building Buds workshop to create your very own stop motion short film? Come up with a concept inspired by your own thoughts and connection to your environment, work with other participants to write and develop the story, then let the idea blossom and bloom into your very own animation.

This full day workshop will take you through the basics of animation, how to write an engaging piece of poetry or prose, and give you the space to trial, test and create a work of your own in a safe and encouraging environment.

Lunch and snacks will be provided.

£5 deposit required to secure a space (to be refunded when the participant attends the workshop)
