About Children's Art Week

Children’s Art Week is a UK-wide programme run by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education and is taking place at London Transport Museum from 29 June to 19 July.

Join us as we dive into our collection to explore the rich design heritage of London’s transport.

From the moquette designs on the seats we sit on to the posters we walk past and the fonts we use, artists and designers have had an important role in shaping our everyday journeys on TfL’s network.

This Children’s Art Week, we’re inviting Key Stage 2 (KS2) learners to join us for a week of virtual workshops, as well as digital and downloadable resources to support classroom learning.

If you are interested in booking onto any of our workshops or attending our virtual events please email [email protected].

Talking Type

We look at type everyday but what is it actually trying to tell us? How do designers decide what a font is going to look like?

Use this 30 min virtual webinar with your students to explore TfL’s Johnston typeface and learn from graphic designer Chris Ratcliffe about his design process and all things type. The webinar will lead you and your students through a creative making activity, and kick-start learning how to design your own typeface or carry on after the session.

Use our downloadable resource to create your own poem inspired by the Poems on the Underground, topped with a title in your own bespoke font!

This session is a pre-recorded virtual webinar teachers can use to deliver a creative Art and Design session in the classroom.

Please ensure you read and use our Talking Type Teachers resource to best prepare for and use this virtual webinar with your class.
