Description | This poster, published by the Underground group, highlights the dangers of crossing the road after alighting a bus, and the importance of understanding the 'Safety First' principles and regulations. A cartoon by George Loraine Stampa illustrates the point: a man who has just left a bus walks into the street only to be run down by a horse-drawn vehicle. The National Safety First Council was set up in 1916 to tackle safety in the workplace on a national scale. Later, the National Safety First Association was formed, and introduced initiatives to try to improve road safety including a safe driving competition. The association later became known as The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. |
