Description | View along the northbound Northern line platform, Charing Cross Underground station (now Embankment). Sections of white and coloured tiling can be seen on the platform wall. An illuminated train describer and two illuminated direction signs are suspended from the tunnel roof; the sign nearest the camera has a double-flighted Mexican arrow. A confectionary vending machine stands foreground left. Note the machinery mounted on the metal girder that crosses the tracks, midground centre; this is probably connected with the operation of the floodgates installed during the Second World War and still in existence at this time. A number of people are waiting on the platform. |
