Description | Lines of people, two or three abreast, waiting to join buses outside the Royal Forest Hotel at Chingford on Whit Monday 1939. In the foreground, a queue of people is snaking across the road in front of a STL-type bus operating on route 38 to Victoria Station; another queue of people are boarding this bus, supervised by the conductor who can just be seen standing by the rear platform. The driver, in his white summer dustcoat, is sitting in the cab. Another bus is visible on the right, heading in the opposite direction. The Hotel itself is in the background. |
