Description | This poster was commissioned by the Underground Electric Railway Company in 1912. It publicises the improvements made to the Hampstead line service to accommodate the rapid expansion of the suburbs since 1907. Work began on the new Underground railway from Charing Cross to Hampstead in 1903. When the line opened to passengers in 1907, land value in Golders Green immediately increased by 800%. Within five years, a community had grown around the new terminus. This poster advertises the additional trains and shorter journey times that allowed more and more people to make the journey to work by electric Tube. The Hampstead line now forms part of the Northern line. |
