Description | Northern line platform, Strand station (now Charing Cross). The photograph was taken shortly before the station closed for six years for reconstruction. It can be seen that the platform walls are bare, although advertisements are still in place on the tunnel wall. The tiled bands on the tunnel roof are clearly visible. An illuminated train describer can be seen in the distance. The illuminated hanging sign in the foreground has a double-flighted Mexican arrow. Note the shaded electric lights set at intervals in the tunnel roof. |
