Harry Beck (also known by the name Henry Charles Beck), born 1902 in Leyton, London, died 1974. Draughtsman , Designed posters for the Underground Group 1931-1933

Harry Beck was also known by the name Henry C Beck.

Biography:

Harry Beck is best known for designing the diagrammatic map of London's Underground system. He proposed the design in 1931, whilst working as a draughtsman for the Underground. In 1933, after the formation of the London Transport, Frank Pick gave the design a trial printing. The diagrammatic representation, which proved to be popular and easily understood by Underground passengers, has been used ever since. Beck also designed a number of posters for the Underground Group in the early 1930s.
