Ceramic paint palette used by Austin Cooper

Art of the poster label

Kauffer and Cooper : Edward McKnight Kauffer and Austin Cooper dominated British poster design in the 1930s. Highly respected by fellow designers and critics alike, they set new standards in graphic design and helped establish commercial art as a profession in its own right.

Both published influential books on the subject and worked for a range of clients, including Shell and the main line railways. In 1937 Cooper co-founded the London branch of the German Reimann School of Commercial and Industrial Design - the first commercial art college in Britain.
