Art of the poster > Maintaining the tradition
Tradition, prestige and goodwill
By the 1950s, the philosophy of 'Art for All' was more than just an approach to advertising. Pick had established high design standards and a culture of quality at London Transport, which was maintained long after his departure. It had become both a tradition and an expectation of the organization's publicity.
Publicity became increasingly handled by agencies and expanded to embrace new advertising media. However, the direct commissioning of fine and graphic artists was continued by London Transport and its successor Transport for London.
