Decade - 1960s
By the 1960s, the printing of posters was dependent on a photographic processes, rather than traditional lithography. This gave poster artists the freedom to work in more varied, textured and even three-dimension media.
The number of pictorial posters commissions directly from artists was declined rapidly in the 1960s. This was because publicity, which by this time included TV and radio, was increasingly contracted out to agencies. The innovative use of new materials and techniques contributed positively to the stylistic development of the art poster, in spite of their depleting numbers. Mosaic, textiles and collage all contributed to a renewed sense of variety within the poster programme.
