Commercial artist Richard Beck ran his own design consultancy in London before the Second World War. Among his commissions were posters and press advertisements for London Transport, Shell and the Orient Line. He served with the Australian Imperial Force during the war, before establishing the design agency Richard Beck Associates. In the 1950s he won many design awards working in Australia. He became Head of Graphic Design at Prahran Technical College in 1969, where he worked until 1972.
