Peter Welton trained as a teacher, transferring to art from Mathematics early in the course. He went on to study Fine Art under Victor Pasmore, Lawrence Gowing, Richard Hamilton and Quentin Bell. On graduating he worked briefly as a designer in Repertory Theatres. He then taught for thirty years before becoming a full time artist. He has since received commissions from The All England Lawn Tennis Club, P&O, the New York publishers Houghton Mifflin and Volkswagen UK. He has also worked as a resident artist aboard cruise ships, providing a drawn account of trips worldwide and encouraging passengers to do the same. He now lives and works in Arnesby, Leicestershire.
