At the age of seven, Jake Sutton won the Daily Express National Children's Painting Competition and at thirteen decided to pursue painting at art school. He has held exhibitions in London since 1979, enjoying many sell-out solo shows. Sutton's vibrant watercolours capture the excitement and splendour of a single moment. They are characterised by a remarkable sense of space and exuberant use of colour. Sutton is an accomplished draughtsman. He maintains that 'drawing is the grammar and punctuation of the painter's work and without it he can say little'. Sutton's paintings are held in the V&A and House of Commons collections.
