Ivon Hitchens (also known by the name Sydney Ivon Hitchens), born 1893 in Kensington, London, died 1979. Designed poster for London Transport 1951

Biography:

Ivon Hitchens was an eminent British landscape and still life artist. He had his first one-man show at the Mayor Gallery in 1925. He was a member of the London Group and the 7 & 5 Society. Although influenced by Cezanne and the modern French School, he developed his own very distinctive painting style. He decorated several churches including St Luke's in Maidstone and St Paul's in Dorking. A retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Serpentine Gallery in 1989. His work can be found in the Tate and British Museum collections.
