Hans Feibusch was born of a German Jewish family. He briefly studied medicine, before switching to painting. He had a successful early career in Germany, winning the German state prize for painters at the Prussian Academy of Arts. However, he was forced to leave Germany in 1933, due to the increasing threat of Nazi persecution. Feibusch came to Britain, where he became a member of the London Group in1934. In 1937, his work was included in the Entartete Kunst (Degenerate Art) exhibition in Germany. Between the 1930s and 1960s, Feibusch worked for the Church of England, producing murals for over 40 churches nationwide.
