Biography:

David Shrigley produces photographs, sculptures and installations, but is best known for his distinctive drawings and text based work. Poignant, astute, playfully witty and enigmatically dark, Shrigley's work is surprisingly accessible and always entertaining. Like his drawings, Shrigley's characteristic black handwriting embraces the imperfections of working intuitively. This lends an endearing childlike quality and a familiar, unpretentious honestly. Some works take the form of absurd and subversive public notices. Others combine mundane images with incongruous text, to twists the viewer's natural perception of a view or situation. His energetic line drawings translate perfectly into animations, which bring characters from his earlier works on paper to life. His work has been published in small books and exhibited worldwide.
