David Lewis, born in Wales. Designed posters for London Transport 1949-1953

In 1934, after studying in Liverpool, David Lewis moved to London. He established a relationship with Clement Dane Studio and began work as a graphic designer. His first notable poster commission was for 'Summer Shell'. Lewis's reputation in London soon grew, securing commissions from the Great Western Railway and Dover-Ostend Train Ferry. During the Second World War Lewis served in the Tank Brigade. On returning to London, a string of commissions for London Transport helped re-establish his career. Future clients included British Railways and P&O, who commissioned two huge murals for their new liner, Iberia. In 1955 he worked for Schweppes, in the then new field of television advertising.
