Biography:

Bernard Sleigh was a painter, specialising in oils and watercolour. He also designed murals and works in stained glass. He attended evening classes in commercial wood engraving at Birmingham School of Art, where he went on to teach. Wood engraving had traditionally been associated with the reproduction of painted images. Sleigh was instrumental in developing the medium's unique potential for artistic expression.
