Alan Sorrell, born 1904, died 1974. Designed posters for London Transport 1937-1938
Alan Sorrell was a painter, illustrator and lithographer. He is best known by archaeologists, for his paintings of ancient monuments commissioned the Ministry of Works. He also painted a number of murals and worked as a war artist for the RAF during the Second World War. Sorrell taught at the Royal College of Art from 1931 to1948. He regularly exhibited at the NEAC, Royal Academy and RWS. His work is held by the Imperial War Museum, Tate, Ashmolen Museum and the Museum of London.
