A R Thomson, born 1895 in Bangalore, India, died 1979. Designed posters for London Transport 1949
As a child, A R Thomson moved to England from India. He completed his schooling in Kent and went on to become a full time artist and illustrator. From 1920 Thomson regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy and illustrated a number of books. In the 1930s and 1940s he designed posters for the Ministry of Information, GPO and London Transport. During the Second World War he worked as an artist for the RAF. After the war, he was commissioned by the Science Museum to paint scenes from Britain's scientific history. Thomson was a member of the London Sketch Club in the 1970s.
