Studio portrait of Mr George Francis Train. An American, Train introduced American style horse tram or 'Street Railways' to London in 1861. Three demonstration lines were laid on the Bayswater Road, Victoria Street and from Westminster Bridge to Kennington. The use of a protruding step-rail type track system and the choice of affluent (carriage owning) locations, led to the failure of this project. Copy taken from half-tone print.
