An London General Omnibus Company (LGOC) B-type bus on route 27 for Twickenham crosses the River Thames at Richmond Bridge. A woman conductor in summer uniform is visible issuing tickets on the top deck of the bus. Women were employed as bus conductors between 1916 - 1919, during the First World War.

20th Century London caption: This picture, taken in 1919, is towards Richmond on the south side of the River Thames. A woman conductor in summer uniform is issuing tickets on the top deck of the bus. During the First World War, women were employed as bus conductors. They were needed to replace the men who had joined the armed. Richmond Bridge, finished in Portland stone in 1777, is the oldest bridge over the Thames in Greater London. It was widened in 1937-9 on the upstream side.
