Railman seeing off train at White City Underground station, Central line.

Unknown photographer, circa 1970

Location: White City Underground station, Hammersmith and Fulham W12

Image no: 900-2-9-1

Inventory no: 2002/19050

20th Century London caption: This picture was taken at White City Underground station. The station is unusual because it is one of the few on the Underground system to have 'wrong side working'. At White City, the trains on the left and right tracks run in different directions from most others. The clothes of the people in the background suggest that the photo was taken in the late 1970s or early 80s. The train is 1962 Tube stock which ran on the Central line until the 1990s. In the foreground, a uniformed railman is signalling that the train is safe to depart.
