A District line guard standing on the platform at Charing Cross (now Embankment) station, demonstrating the use of a catenary suspension wire to signal the driver of a train to start. A District 1905 B-stock control trailer car stands in the platform. The guard is being watched with interest by a young man standing in the doorway of the adjoining car.
