The eastern extremity of the Strand with Temple Bar, circa 1870. The view looks down the road with Temple Bar in the distance. White notes that the stone gatehouse shown was built from designs by Wren after the wooden one was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The Charles I and II statues in the arch, by John Bushnell, are visible, and horse and carts can be seen travelling under the arch. People are walking along the shop lined pavement.
