20th Century London caption: During the First World War, women in London took on many jobs that had traditionally been carried out by men. The job of station porters included moving luggage, cleaning, and hanging posters. The two women pictured were working as porters during the war. The photo was taken at Willesden Green & Cricklewood (now Willesden Green) station. It was then operated by the Metropolitan (Met) Railway. The woman in the centre of the shot is hanging a poster advertising Metro Land, the Met's suburban housing development.
