Construction work on the District Railway. Driving under the north side approach to Blackfriars Bridge, c1869. A steep-sided narrow cutting, with a number of men working in it, runs foreground right to midground centre/right. More workmen are standing on either side at the top of the cutting, mostly looking at the camera. The dome of St Paul's cathedral is just visible in the background.

Unknown photographer, circa 1869
