St Paul's Cathedral as seen from the south side of the river Thames at Bankside. A sailing boat is moored with a rowing boat in the foreground.

Photographed by E E Elcombe, circa 1930

Location: City of London EC4

Inventory no: 2004/16403

20th Century London caption: This shot was taken from Bankside looking across to the north bank of the Thames and St Paul's Cathedral. The dome is just visible behind the wharf buildings. Cranes attached to wharf warehouses were used to unload goods from barges like those in this photo. In the foreground is a barge with sails, once a common sight on the Thames. Two men are working onboard. The Millennium Bridge now crosses the Thames close to this point.
