Interior of the buffet section of a British Railways' Tavern Car, combining the most modern features of a restaurant/buffet car with the traditional style of an Old English tavern. These cars were introduced on both the Southern and Eastern Regions of BR in 1949. Customers stand around the buffet, whilst staff are at work behind the counter. The buffet has real oak beams and a 'genuine' hand-painted pub sign (upper mid-foreground).

Photographed by British Railways, 13 May 1949
