Construction work on the District Railway, looking north-east from Earl's Court towards High Street Kensington. Workmen can be seen building the retaining walls on both sides of a wide cutting. A long train of open wagons stands on the single track on the right-hand side of the cutting, with workmen standing in the three wagons nearest the camera.

Unknown photographer, circa 1868
