Construction work on the Metropolitan Railway at St Chad's Place, near King's Cross. The brick-lined cutting has been completed, and is crossed by a number of overbridges. A single track has been laid in the cutting, presumably for use by the contractor. Construction materials are stacked at the sides and end of the cutting.

Unknown photographer, circa 1862
