District Railway construction. View taken beside the river Thames, with a large number of men posing for the camera, including three divers, two with their helmets on, the other, in diving suit and boots, but without helmet, standing beside the ship's wheel, midground left. The masts and spars of a number of sailing ships can be seen on the river. Large baulks of wood, laid in a transverse direction, are visible in the foreground, with other lengths laid longitudinally on them. The buildings in the distance appear to be warehouses.
