20th Century London caption: This picture was taken in 1926 at Golders Green. The top deck of the bus is full of people. The women are wearing distinctive cloche hats of the twenties. Most of the men are wearing a hat too, either a bowler or a trilby. Up to the 1960s, a hat was standard dress. The bus is an N.S.-type. Attached to the front is a crank handle, used to start the engine. The N-type buses were originally open-topped, but in 1926 closed top buses were introduced. These protected passengers from bad weather, although the driver was still left uncovered. On the side of the bus is a large poster advertising Heinz spaghetti.
