Underground guard on the platform at Stamford Brook station, demonstrating the train starting device. He is holding the metal staff of his flag so that it makes contact with the overhead wires; this rings a bell on the platform, telling the motorman to restart the train. The train in the platform is formed of District 1927 K-stock; car no 8258 is nearest the camera.
