20th Century London caption: Women staff members sit at tables in the mess room at Earls Court Underground station. The transport companies provided staff rooms and canteens such as this one. Hot meals consisting of a cut of meat, two vegetables and a pudding cost 7 or 8 pence. Employers provided staff with recreation facilities for concerts, dancing and meetings, and athletic clubs were also started during the war. However as this staff club for women shows, many facilities were still separate for men and women.
