Group of four uniformed station staff at Neasden station, Metropolitan Railway. Semaphore signal in background.

Photographed by Metropolitan Railway, circa 1915

Location: Neasden station

Image no: Ukn

Inventory no: 2004/1540

20th Century London caption: These four men standing on the railway platform work for the Metropolitan Railway (Met). The photo is one of a series commissioned by the Met in 1915. At that time the Met was still independent from the Underground Group and was developing land near its stations and building housing estates for London commuters. These developments became known as Metro-Land. This picture was taken at Neasden, which was still then mostly open countryside. The men are wearing the formal uniforms of the time as well as a wonderful variety of moustaches.
