Drawing showing what is believed to be the southern entrance to the Thames Tunnel, at Rotherhithe, shortly after opening in 1843. A number of well-dressed pedestrians can be seen in the foreground, next to a table which appears to be stocked with refreshments. The twin bores of the tunnel itself are visible in the background. The Tunnel at this time was regarded very much as a tourist attraction.
