Inventory no: 1999/6933

20th Century London caption: This photo was taken at the London General Omnibus Company (L.G.O.C.) North Road Coach Factory, Islington. It shows the factory yard with three rows of staff who built and repaired the horse buses. They are pictured in front of one of the body frames they were working on. Most of the men wear cloth caps and white aprons: typical workman's wear. In the horse buses' heyday in 1905, the L.G.O.C. had 1,418 buses and 17,000 horses to pull them.
