Photograph of an illustration taken from a contemporary engraving showing three steam-omnibuses designed by Walter Hancock: 'Infant' (1831), 'Era' (1832), and 'Autopsy' (1833). Hancock was the pioneer of motor transport in London, devising steam-carriages for service across the metropolis. His first carriage, 'Infant' made a trial run on the Paddington New Road in Feb 1831, then was used on the route between Whitechapel and Stratford. The 'Enterprise' ran between Paddington and Bank and in 1834 'Era' and 'Autopsy' were placed on the same route.
