District Railway construction, showing the site of Notting Hill Gate Underground station. The alcoved brick retaining walls on either side of the cutting are partially completed, although scaffolding poles are still erected in front of them. Debris is piled on the site of the platforms. A train of contractor's wagons stands on the right. Note the small crane at the top of the cutting, midground left.
