Women wartime volunteers sit trimming electrical wire to aid the war effort during the Second World War.

20th Century London caption: London Transport staff trim electrical wire to specified lengths in their spare time. They volunteered for these duties along with over 300 other staff members to make aircraft parts to help the war effort. Workers contributed over £200,000 of free labour in this way. Voluntary work was encouraged by the government to increase the war production in London. The photograph was taken by Topical Press in 1942.
