The last of the First World War substitute women conductors; Mrs T Petty, and Ellen Bulfield receive a certificate from Lady Stanley (later Lady Ashfield) at the London General Omnibus Company Depot in Milman's Street, Chelsea.

20th Century London caption: Women employed by the transport companies during the First World War were expected to give up their jobs to the returning soldiers once the war ended. The London General Omnibus Company (L.G.O.C.) discharged its last woman conductor in 1919. Each received a Certificate of Service, acknowledging their role in keeping London running. This photo was taken at the last leaving ceremony, for Mrs T Petty and Ellen Bulfield at the Milman's Street depot. Ellen was one of the first women to sign up with L.G.O.C. On the right, Lady Stanley, wife of the managing director of the Underground Group, is handing Ellen her certificate.
