The control desk in the signal cabin at Farringdon which was opened on 17 December 1956. This was the largest up to this date having a push-button panel 4ft long linked to 67 signals and 54 pairs of points. The signalman's push-button console and train describers etc. with associated illuminated diagram are shown. The signal cabin controls the signalling of both the Circle line and steam/diesel operated City Widened Lines from Farringdon to Moorgate and Liverpool Street. Certain shunting movements to and from the loco spurs at the two latter stations are normally carried out automatically by the occupation of track circuits in a pre-arranged sequence.
