Interior view, facing southwards, taken during the final stages of construction in 1868 of Kensington (afterwards called High Street Kensington) station, Metropolitan and District Railways. The station is substantially complete, although some men are working on the platform on the right, and, halfway along the left hand platform, a man is standing on a stepladder, apparently making an adjustment to one of the hanging glass gas lamps. A steam locomotive is standing on the single track, midground right. Note the line of posts running along the length of the central island platform.
