Platforms at Notting Hill Gate station, looking towards High Street Kensington. The photograph was probably taken shortly before the station opened. Several members of staff are casually posing on the platforms or standing on the tracks. A manually-operated semaphore signal can be seen at the end of the left-hand platform; the signal cabin is situated on the opposite platform. Note the succession of overbridges crossing the line, which was built on the cut and cover method
