View taken from Greenwich Park showing Greenwich Power station and the Millenium Dome.

Photographed by Ian Bell, 14 Jun 1999

Location: Greenwich, SE1

Inventory no: 2005/17900

20th Century London caption: London's Millennium Dome is the largest single-roofed structure in the world. It is 365 metres in diameter and supported by 12 towers, each of which is 95 metres high. It was completed for the Millennium celebrations of 31 December 1999. The Dome was built on the Greenwich peninsula, which had been left derelict and contaminated after the closure of the gasworks in 1985. The reclamation of the land has had a beneficial impact on the whole area. This photo was taken looking across the Thames from Greenwich Park. In the foreground is Greenwich power station.
