View of the interior of the staff canteen at Cricklewood Garage,
Photographed by Topical Press, May 1911
Location: Edgware Road, Brent NW2
Image no: 033534

20th Century London caption: This photo shows the interior of the London General Omnibus Company (L.G.O.C.) staff canteen in Cricklewood. In 1911, L.G.O.C. was the biggest bus company in London. The facilities were basic but the canteen offered staff nourishing meals at a good price. Many of the men's uniforms show they are drivers or conductors. One man standing on the left of the picture is holding a book of tickets. Others, such as the man in the flat cap sitting in the right foreground, would have worked maintaining the buses. All the employees were men because in 1911 L.G.O.C. didn't employ women. A tea urn is on the counter at the back, draped in a towel.
