Charing Cross main line station; view from the railway bridge end of a central platform, beyond the glazed barrel roof built by Sir John Hawkshaw in the 1860s, and regarded by White as an eyesore. A steam locomotive is waiting at the open end of the wooden platform, level with a three way lamppost.
