About the Collection - History

The Museum's unique photographic collection reflects London's public transport history from the 1860s to the present day. The core of the collection is made up of the old London Transport photographic archive of over 150 000 black and white photographs. The collection also includes a smaller archive of colour material, as well as historic albums and prints from all periods. Over 23,000 images are now available to view and purchase on-line, with new photographs added regularly. Each image has a brief caption, stating location and date (where known) to assist retrieval. For help with searching, click on Search Tips. The online selection includes some of the best images in the collection, and reflects the range of subjects covered. For more specialist enquiries, please make an appointment to view the photographic collection at Acton Depot.
